The Course
Flat and fast! Competitive and recreational runners alike will love this quick course through residential Marion. Timers at each mile and a water stop will be featured. The race begins and ends on 6th Avenue between the Library and City Square Park, in uptown Marion.
Participants in the 5K Fun Walk will enjoy the chance to get out with friends for a morning stroll in this non-competitive event. Walkers will share the course with runners, finishing among the spectators in City Square Park.
5K Race Awards
Thanks to race sponsor Benchmark, Inc., generous "purchase prizes" to spend with exhibiting artists at the festival or a cash amount will be awarded to certain winners of this year's Marion Arts Festival 5K. Winners will choose to receive a purchase prize or cash award as follows; the top three male and female overall finishers, to the first male and female in the Masters Division (40+) and to the first male and female to cross the one mile mark.
First place finishers receive either a $175 purchase prize or $150 cash prize, second place $125 or $100, third place $100 or $75, Masters $100 or $75 and the one mile winners receive $150 or $125. Awards will go to the top three finishers in each of the following age divisions: 10 and under; 11-14; 15-19; 20-24; 25-29; 30-34; 35-39; 40-44; 45-49; 50-54; 55-59; 60-64; 65-69; 70-74; and 75 or over. Awards will also go to the top three Clydesdale and Athena finishers in the following divisions: Clydesdale/Athena under 40 and Clydesdale/Athena 40 years old and over.
Winners in each age group category of the 5K Walk division will receive awards. Awards will be given out to the age groups of 19 and under; 20-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59; 60-69; 70 and over.
Teams will be made up of three participants and scored cross-country style. Top team in each of four (Middle School, High School, Corporate and Open) categories will win bragging rights and an award.
With the exception of the purchase prizes for the course record and the first male and female to reach the one mile mark, there will be no duplication of awards. The top three male and female winners, first place masters male and female winners, and the Clydesdale/Athena division are not eligible for age group awards. Team awards are separate from individual awards and can be duplicated.
More Good Stuff
The awards ceremony will begin immediately following the race. A great selection of refreshments will be available for runners and walkers along with complementary chiropractic and massage services. Door prizes this year will include four fabulous, $100 “purchase prizes” to spend on artwork at the festival! All participants are eligible, but must be present to win.
Race Results To Include
Chip Times and Splits
With the availability of chip timing, runners will cross over a detection point at the start of the race. This start line detection point will allow for the publishing of a finishers chip time along with their gun time. If it takes a person 30 seconds to reach the start of the race, that time is deducted to create the chip time. NOTE: THE AWARDS WILL BE DETERMINED BY THE GUN TIME NOT THE CHIP TIME. Results will also include split times for the 1 mile, 2 mile and last 1.1 mile marks of the race. No other 5K event in the area offers detailed results like these!
JMS Racing Services will provide the timing for the Marion Art's Festival 5K using the Ipico Sports timing system. Participants will be given a timing shoe tag that will switch on as it crosses over each start, split or finish line detection point. Timing tags are small and lightweight and can be weaved into shoe laces or attached to them with zip or twist ties. These timing tags are not transferable! Be careful not to switch with family members, friends, etc. Timing tags must be worn on the shoe at all times during the event in order to receive any times. For the most part the Ipico shoe tag is disposable.
