At the Marion Arts Festival, everyone is an artist.
Our Create & Explore spaces in the Uptown Artway invite all attendees to work side-by-side with artists from the Iowa Ceramics Center and Glass Studio, 237 Collective, and Iowa City Press Co-Op on different interactive & communal projects. These projects are for everyone, kids are especially welcome to take part. Come get your hands dirty and find your favorite new organization to learn with!
Print one-Take one
This activity allows participants to physically print and take home a postcard or a fabric patch. Both stations will have pre-carved relief plates. One station will be for a younger audience with water soluble dye, while the other station (8+) will allow the artist (you!) to roll ink onto a plate and run it through a table top press.
Interactive Paint Experience
Enjoy a large interactive art installation that includes five foot tall block numbers (spelling 237) where participants can use various art mediums to draw, tag, paint and create on a collective surface. Mediums will include water-based spray paint, paint markers, acrylic paints and solid paint markers.
These projects were funded in part from a grant provided by the Iowa Arts Council, which exists within the Iowa Economic Development Authority.
